Our Programs
Empowering and supporting our LGBTQIA+ ,woman and youth communities

Direct Services
Ensure that LGBTQIA+ people, women, and girls in all their diversity have access to timely, safe, equitable, and integrated legal, health, and psychosocial services that uphold their dignity and human rights. At the heart of AC2’s direct service work is the We Belong Centre, a comprehensive, integrated service hub offering wrap-around support to individuals affected by discrimination, violence, and systemic exclusion. The Centre embodies AC2’s commitment to a person-centred, trauma-informed model of care that addresses immediate needs while building resilience and empowerment. The We Belong Centre comprises four interlinked components.

Law Clinic
Providing legal advice, and support.

Health Clinic
Offering healthcare and wellness services.

Psychosocial support
Counselling and mental health support.

Resource/Media Centre
Access to resources and information.

Advocacy
Strengthen, amplify, and empower communities to advocate for systemic change through sustained impactful advocacy efforts. While a comprehensive 2025–2028 Advocacy Strategy has been adopted as a standalone guiding document (Annexure 2), advocacy remains a foundational pillar of AC2’s work. Advocacy is the mechanism through which the lived realities of LGBTI+ people, women, and girls are translated into calls for legislative, policy, and institutional reform. At its core, AC2’s advocacy is grounded in constitutionalism, human rights principles, and the imperative of community ownership.

Community-led Advocacy
AC2 empowers communities to identify rights violations, organise, and lead campaigns while training grassroots advocates in storytelling, campaigning, and legal literacy.

Policy Reform and Legislative Advocacy
AC2 influences laws and policies on SOGIESC, SRHR, GBV, and equality through parliamentary submissions, policy forums, and coalition advocacy.

Strategic Litigation and Legal Advocacy
AC2 supports landmark legal cases challenging discrimination, complementing its direct legal services and monitoring efforts.

Accountability Mechanisms
AC2 monitors implementation of protective laws using shadow reporting to UN bodies, community scorecards, and public hearings.

Movement Building and Coalition Work
AC2 partners with civil society, academic, and regional networks to amplify voices and lead coalitions on gender justice, LGBTI+ rights, and public accountability.

Digital and Media Advocacy
AC2 uses social media, storytelling, and digital campaigns to shape public discourse, challenge stigma, and train activists in digital safety and communication.

Research
Advance responsive knowledge that educates and informs policy reform and systemic change. Research underpins AC2’s evidence-informed advocacy and programming. AC2 aims to lead and contribute to community-based and policy-focused research that centres the voices of marginalised people and informs institutional transformation.

Publishing knowledge products including research reports, policy briefs, case studies, and multimedia narratives.

Creating safe platforms for knowledge co creation with community researchers and activists.

Partnering with academic institutions and think tanks for ethical, collaborative research.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
Improve organisational systems, track and evaluate programmes, and initiate learning to inform programme design. The MEL pillar ensures AC2 remains accountable to its stakeholders and continuously improves its work. AC2’s MEL approach is participatory, inclusive, and oriented toward learning as well as measurement.

Developing and refining a comprehensive MEL Framework aligned with this strategy.

Establishing robust data collection systems disaggregated by population group, service, and location.

Hosting quarterly and annual learning forums to promote internal reflection and cross-departmental knowledge exchange.
