PRETORIA, South Africa
Access Chapter 2 strongly condemns the recent act of criminality on its property in Pretoria. Two AC2 Outreach Buses were damaged on Wednesday when criminals broke into the vehicles, subsequently breaking into the buses storage compartments. Alongside the AC2 buses, an undisclosed amount of copper belonging to the church property were AC2 buses park was also
stripped and stolen.
The buses vandalized are comprehensive mobile clinics that were donated to AC2 by the Human Science Research Council to provide off-site health services to queer community, providing much needed HIV testing and Treatment, PEP, PrEP and other services to Gauteng Communities particularly LGBTI people and broader youth. As it stands, a microwave alongside testing tents and equipment have been stolen from the vehicles.
As an organisation that relies on limited resources, such as these outreach buses, we view this as an attack on the work we do at the centre and beyond. This is also a deliberate attack on the recipients of many of our life-saving interventions and services. A case of theft, breaking and entering was opened with the Pretoria Police Station.
We call for support and solidarity with AC2 team and urge those with useful information to come forward . With this incident, outreach services are disrupted and will resume in due course. On-site health services will resume on 9 January 2024, with the centre opening on 8 January 2024.
